Hacking Berlin’s City Model: #Berlin3D

Erschien am 12. June 2015 in News

3D_city_model_berlinOver the past few years Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie (Berlin Partner for Business and Technology) has been steadily evolving its 3D city model, adding a host of new features and exciting data links.

Today Berlin has one of the most innovative 3D city models anywhere in the world as the international awards it has garnered can testify. In March 2015 Berlin Partner for Business and Technology together with the Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Technologie und Forschung (Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Technology and Research) took this to the next level – within the terms of the Open Data Initiative Berlin free access for everyone has now been granted to the data and source codes.

Professor Dr. Jürgen Döllner, head of the computer graphics and visualisation department at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute, gave an introduction talk on the applications and tools at the kick-off event held on 3 June 2015 at hub:raum Berlin. Afterwards, over snacks and drinks participants had the chance to find their way to the various project groups in which, supervised by seasoned mentors, they will be working together to generate new ideas over the next six weeks. A final presentation of the results will be held in the Microsoft Digital Eatery during Tech Open Air on 16 July 2015 where the new ideas and concepts will be officially showcased to an audience of representatives from business, government and science.
